Minorities
 

CWS Minorities Program is working through NGOs for mainstreaming the development of Muslim minority. It supports Muslim women in A.P., Bihar and Jharkahnd into self-help groups, identify needs in specific areas and support them to access government schemes.

Networks
Development Action for Marginalized Muslims (DAMM) a network with five voluntary organizations in Anantapur district of A.P. is working with Muslim women, promoting livelihood and awareness on their rights.

This network has formed 234 Self Help Groups with a total membership of 2907 Muslim women. They also formed 29 Youth Groups with 351 members and identified 178 community volunteers to work among the minorities.

SAAYA network in Tamil Nadu comprising seven voluntary organizations in seven districts is working with Muslim women spreading awareness about their rights, promoting education, providing legal support and training Self Help Groups towards self reliance. This network has formed 115 Self Help Groups with a membership of 1771 Muslim women.

Workshop on Development Concerns of Marginalized Minorities
CWS along with DAMM network conducted a state level workshop on ‘Development Concerns of Marginalized Muslims’, on 29-30th August 2005 with the Government, NGOs and donor agencies to understand the problems of minorities and work for their development.

Documentation of Study report on the conditions of minorities CWS has carried out a study in Anantapur district on the conditions of Muslim  minorities. The comparative study of the Muslims with other marginalized sections like BCs, SCs, and STs highlights the deprivation faced by the  community and calls for creating access to housing, livelihood opportunities and institutional credit.

Publication of manual on Schemes for the Welfare of Minorities CWS has published a manual on Schemes for the Minorities in Andhra Pradesh disseminating information on government schemes for them.

Policy Advocacy
Minorities Desk has initiated dialogue with various stakeholders for the proper integration of them in the development process. It made representation to Justice Ranganath Mishra Commission on Linguistic and Religious Minorities and Prime Minister’s High Power Committee to study the socio-economic conditions of Muslim minorities under the  chairmanship of Justice Rajendra Sachar.
