Mainstreaming HIV
 

Goal
Internal and External Mainstreaming of HIV/AIDS within CWS and among its partner organizations and constituents through various development and livelihood programs.

Objectives

  • Raise awareness of HIV/AIDS impact within CWS and implement workplace policy on HIV/AIDS (Internal Mainstreaming)

  • Raise awareness of HIV/AIDS impact on livelihood and development programs of CWS (External Mainstreaming among partners and constituents)

  • Assist the partner organization towards mainstreaming HIV/AIDS

  • Help in debunking people’s assumptions on HIV/AIDS

  • Adhering to the CWS Workplace policy on HIV/AIDS

  • Dissemination of information on CWS workplace policy to staff and CWS partners

  • Empowering the partners to develop their own workplace policy

In Collaboration with APSACS
As a first step CWS in collaboration with APSACS organized a one time training program on HIV/AIDS preventive education.

Master Training (ToTs) to Core Resource Persons (CRPs)
The ToT was given by APSACS to 196 staff members of 56 NGOs from 19 districts of A.P. The details are as follows.

A 5-day intensive training on Mainstreaming HIV/AIDS concerns was given. 196 staff members including 110 women were trained from 56 organizations belonging to 19 districts of AP.

Resource persons with expertise and adequate knowledge from APSACS trained the CRPs. The participants were provided with training kit/bag consisting of TOT manual, flipbook, pocket book, reading material on HIV/AIDS.

Identification and Training to Village Resource Persons (VRPs)
After CRP training, the partner organizations and CRPs have identified 5828 VRPs covering 121 Mandals from 3180 villages and 21 slums in 19 districts. The VRPs also have shown keen interest in getting trained educate respective communities on HIV/AIDS concerns.

Sensitizing Communities
The trained VRPs were expected to sensitize 300 members each on HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention education. Men VRPs were expected to cover youth and men and women VRPs were expected to cover the women and adolescent girls.

On the whole 5828 VRPs have trained 17,63,109 community members comprising 45.6% women, 15.7% adolescent girls and 6,81,907 men/youth 38.7%. These communities were from SHGs, watershed committees, forest protection committees, youth groups, farmers groups, Panchayati Raj Institutions, adolescent girls groups, etc.
