The
gender program of CWS emphasizes on equal participation of women in
decision-making processes and control over resources. The programme
encourage women to organize self-help groups and bring about change
in policy and practice.
The
goal is to help engender a society that ensures the rights of social
and political citizenship within a democratic framework and assures
equality, justice and dignity to women, Dalits, Adivasis and
marginalized sections.
Andhra Pradesh Women’s Network (APWN)
Focus
of the network is to prevent Violence Against Women (VAW) especially
domestic violence. The network with 28 women headed partner
organizations from 18 districts of three regions of Andhra Pradesh
works with 2,00,000 women of SC, ST and marginalized communities
through SHGs in 1832 villages of 124 Mandals.
APWN
members are
CWS has
set-up a legal aid counseling cell within the Police Department in
the Crimes against Women Cell in Hyderabad. Counseling Centres to
Support Women in Distress and Facilitate for Legal Services and
Rehabilitation.
Gender
Programme supports three centres to support women in distress and
facilitate for legal services and rehabilitation at REDS, Kadiri,
Anatapur, at SWARD, Siddipet, Medak and at Samata Society, Alamuru,
East Godavari.
Around
30 tribal single women’s problems are addressed and 25 young tribal
girls are trained in livelihood skills in Khamman district. 350
acres of irrigated land in Madhavaram village made available to
Dalit families. And 5 Devadasi women’s legal rights are addressed
through counseling and legal support in Kurnool district.
Orissa
Through anti-trafficking women’s network efforts are made to reduce
fake marriages leading to sex trade.
‘Jajnaseni’, Orissa Anti Trafficking Network focuses on the campaign
at grass-root in traffic prone districts through SHG, Panchayats and
NGOs to prevent trafficking at community level.
Jharkhand
Through anti-trafficking women’s network, efforts are ongoing to
reduce fake marriages leading to to sex trade. The Anti-Trafficking
Network consists of 9 organizations from 8 districts in Jharkhand
covering 180 villages.
Current activities comprise:
- Awareness
generation on trafficking
- Street theatre shows
at village level on the issue
- State level sharing
of trafficking findings with media, CBI, police, etc.
Bihar
The network consists of 28 organizations from 11 districts, covering
922 villages. It campaigns to prevent the practice of witch hunting.
From 2006, we are supporting Sakhiree Mahila Vakas Sansthan, SIVAN,
on Domestic violence in migrant labour families and Rapid Action for
Human Advancement to address trafficking.
Tamil Nadu
The network consists of 26 organizations, 14 individuals from 12
districts in Tamil Nadu. Thite Ribbon Campaign, protesting violence
against women during violence fortnight. Formation of task
committees for advocacy, training, documentation, monitoring,
research, and networking Strengthen field nterventions and policy
advocacy.
Gender programme develops gender-sensitive user-friendly resource
material such as booklets, pamphlets, training manuals, posters,
etc. on empowerment and development of women. |

Events
National Workshop
Gender Programme organized 7th National Workshop on ‘Trafficking-
transported lives, aborted souls’ in April 2005 at Ranchi,
Jharkhand. The workshop created a learning forum since focused
interventions are taking place in Orissa and Jharkhand with the help
of anti-trafficking networks.
Regional Workshops
Gender programme organizes workshops and trainings for CWS partners
in the five states and also for CWS staff.
State level workshop was held in A.P on the new Domestic
Violence Act 2005.
Gender Mainstreaming workshop was held In Jharkhand on for
all the partners of CWS. |
